Brookwood High School

Summary:

Brookwood High School is a public high school located in Snellville, Georgia, serving grades 9-12 with a total enrollment of 3,878 students. It is part of the Gwinnett County School District, which is ranked 65 out of 203 districts in Georgia and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Brookwood High School has a strong academic reputation, consistently ranking among the top high schools in Georgia. Over the past 10 years, the school has been ranked as high as 18th out of 435 Georgia high schools (in 2014-2015) and has maintained a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger for most of that time period. However, the school's ranking dipped to 316th out of 410 Georgia high schools in the 2020-2021 school year, likely due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Brookwood High School students consistently outperform their peers in the Gwinnett County School District and the state of Georgia on the Georgia Milestones End-of-Course assessments, and the school has a relatively low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch compared to nearby schools.

While Brookwood High School is a high-performing, academically strong public high school, there may be opportunities to further improve student outcomes, particularly in areas like Algebra I and United States History, where the school's proficiency rates are lower compared to other subject areas. The school's strong academic metrics, high graduation rates, and relatively low percentage of economically disadvantaged students set it apart from many of the nearby schools in the Gwinnett County School District, such as Grayson High School.

Open Quote What would motivate your band students to spell out "Coon" at a football game or any school event. I am from California, we have our racial problems too. I just mystified by the boldness of your students. Georgia is the same state that band Ray Charles from performing his art, but a lot student to perform racial hate at half time of a football game. Shame, Shame Close Quote

Open Quote Special Education is just an afterthought here, especially when compared to the programs in elementary & middle schools in the cluster. Many of the teachers are excellent but others are coaches who are more focused on their sports than education, the department chair is just phoning it in. Close Quote

Open Quote this school is the best. There are two middle schools in this district,Five Forks Middle and Alton C. Crews Middle. They are both great schools, but I went to Crews and it was the best middle school ever. I believe if you want your child to be succesful, send him to a good middle school and crews is the best. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
