Windsor High School

Summary:

Windsor High School is a public high school serving around 1,100 students in grades 9-12, located in Windsor, Connecticut, which is part of the East Windsor School District. The school stands out for its diverse student population, with a significantly higher percentage of African American (43.82%) and Hispanic (21.36%) students compared to nearby schools like South Windsor High School.

Academically, Windsor High School's performance, as measured by standardized test scores, is generally lower than the state average and the nearby high-performing schools. For example, in 2023-2024, only 20.1% of Windsor High School's 11th-grade students were proficient or better in SAT Math, compared to the state average of 29.5%. However, the school does excel in supporting certain student subgroups, ranking 2nd out of 25 Connecticut high schools for its African American students and 14th out of 104 for its Hispanic students in recent years.

Over the past few years, Windsor High School has seen a decline in its white student population and an increase in its African American and Hispanic student populations. While the school's overall performance has been somewhat inconsistent, with its statewide ranking fluctuating between 72nd and 96th out of high schools in Connecticut, its proximity to high-performing schools like South Windsor High School and the Academy of Aerospace and Engineering may present both challenges and opportunities for collaboration and learning.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The teacher's at this school are not accountable for thier actions. The vice principle is ignored and the principle does not call you back. Agreements are made easily and broken easily. It is evident that the school lacks communication amongst the staff. If you are looking for any assistance or immediate answers do not hold your breath. The ranking of 115 is well deserved. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
