Summary:

Crestline Elementary School is a highly-ranked public elementary school located in Mountain Brook, Alabama, serving 778 students from pre-kindergarten to 6th grade. The school is part of the Mountain Brook City School District, which is ranked 1st out of 137 school districts in Alabama and is rated 5 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

Crestline Elementary consistently ranks among the top 1-2 elementary schools in Alabama, with a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger. In the 2023-2024 school year, Crestline's proficiency rates in Mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA) are significantly higher than the state and district averages across all grade levels. The school's performance on the Summative Assessment tests is exceptional, with Crestline consistently ranking in the top 5 among Alabama elementary schools for White students, Special Education students, and overall student performance. Crestline's student population is overwhelmingly White, with very low percentages of minority students and students from low-income families, which likely contributes to its academic success.

In contrast, the nearby schools in the Birmingham City district, such as Shades Cahaba Elementary, i3 Academy, Oliver K5, Glen Iris Elementary, and Hayes K8, have significantly lower academic performance and rankings compared to Crestline Elementary. Crestline's higher per-student spending and lower student-to-teacher ratio compared to the nearby schools may also be a factor in its academic success.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Crestline Elementary is well worth the cost of home ownership. The staff is consistently polite, competent and do an excellent job. They don't appear to succumb to educational faddery, and stick to the traditional, tried and true. Academic achievement is the norm for these kids. During my childrens' time there, there have been no issues with bullying, fights, and so forth. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
