Aikin Elementary

Summary:

Aikin Elementary is a public elementary school in Paris, Texas, serving 937 students in grades K-4. The school is part of the Paris Independent School District, which is ranked 702 out of 968 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Aikin Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Texas elementary schools, with a ranking between 2,000-4,000 out of around 4,600 schools and a 1-3 star rating on the SchoolDigger scale. The school's proficiency rates in STAAR Reading and Mathematics for 3rd and 4th grades are significantly lower than the state averages, often by 10-20 percentage points. Performance varies greatly among different student subgroups, with African American and multi-racial students having the lowest proficiency rates, ranking in the bottom 20-30% of Texas elementary schools. In contrast, the school's performance for gifted and talented students is relatively stronger, ranking in the top 40% of Texas elementary schools.

Aikin Elementary's high percentage of economically disadvantaged students (around 74%) may be a significant factor contributing to the school's lower academic performance. The school's performance is generally lower than that of nearby schools, such as Justiss Elementary (also in the Paris ISD) and schools in the Prairiland Independent School District and Chisum Independent School District. By addressing the needs of economically disadvantaged and minority students and learning from the successes of higher-performing neighboring schools, Aikin Elementary may be able to improve its educational outcomes and provide a better learning environment for its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote if I could give zero stars I would. If your child is ADHD or ADD please avoid this place if you can. They are not tolerant at all. They set up a 504 "plan" meeting and when I tried to reschedule due to work basically told me they would not be able to get with me for months and months and it would be bad for him. Well they set up his plan with my son that consisted of TWO things one of which was "being able to leave class and take his meds with the nurse" WHICH HE NEVER DID. Ever. He always took his meds before school which they were very much aware of. They basically just set it up so that they could check him off a list. They did the bare minimum and even when he got straight A's, which he worked HARD for, he was left out of the a honor roll because, due to lack of a 504 plan, he had some typical ADHD behavioral issues. This school is the worst school my son has ever gone to, they killed his self confidence. I am a mom that likes to be active and stay communicated with his teachers and they never called me until (in their words) "his behavior (that I didn't know about) was constantly out of control every day". If I had had any communication whatsoever I could have helped them with him and gotten him into see his doctor to help but they didn't care. Steer away if your child has any form of ADHD, they will not be helpful, will kill your child's self confidence and make them feel like they are BAD, when if they just had guidance and a little patience they could thrive. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
