Kinard Elementary

Summary:

Kinard Elementary is a public elementary school in Clover, South Carolina, serving 441 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the York 02 school district, which is ranked 2 out of 75 districts in the state and has a 5-star rating.

Kinard Elementary has a higher percentage of White students (59.18%) compared to the state average, and a lower percentage of African American (22.9%) and Hispanic (9.75%) students. This racial composition differs from some nearby schools, such as Griggs Road Elementary and Larne Elementary, which have a more diverse student population. Academically, Kinard's performance on state assessments is generally higher than the state average but lower than the top-performing schools in the district, such as Crowders Creek Elementary and Oakridge Elementary. The school also has a relatively high percentage of students (61%) who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a higher proportion of students from low-income families.

Despite these challenges, Kinard Elementary has maintained a consistent 3-star rating from SchoolDigger for most of the past decade and has performed well for specific student subgroups, such as African American students and students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds. The school's proximity to high-performing schools in the York 02 district may provide opportunities for collaboration and sharing of best practices, which could potentially benefit Kinard Elementary's performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The principal, teachers, and staff at Kinard Elementary are exceptional! My two younger children have attended since Pre-K and are now in 1st and 3rd grades. They both had speech problems and were in the speech program at Kinard which is excellent! My son has been in the Kinard reading groups since Kindergarten and it has vastly improved his skills. Kinard highly encourages parent involvement and has many areas available for parents to get involved in school activities. The principal, Mrs. Weathers, has blown me away with her sincere, positive, "get involved" attitude. I don't know how she does it, but she seems to know each student by name and greets and talks to every person she sees with a big smile and a warm welcoming manner. Not only are my children doing well with their learning at Kinard Elementary, but they are anxious to go to school and they enjoy their time there. As a parent, I enjoy my time there as well, it's always a pleasure. I can't say enough positive things about Kinard! This elementary school rocks! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
