While Tuckahoe High School generally performs well, the school has seen a concerning increase in chronic absenteeism, from 17.8% in 2021-2022 to 34.1% in 2022-2023. However, Tuckahoe High School's performance is notably stronger than many of the nearby schools, such as Mount Vernon High School and Saunders Trades & Technical High School in the Mount Vernon School District and the Yonkers City School District. This may be due in part to Tuckahoe High School's higher per-student funding and lower student-teacher ratio.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Tuckahoe schools are totally under-rated. My kids have been in the district since Cottle, and have had exceptional teachers throughout. Our experience has mostly been with the academic and music programs, but I know people rave about the sports offerings as well. As for us, we’re now at the high school, and both kids are at the top of their classes. THS has a new Principal, Mr. Arthur, who started this year and immediately made it possible for my oldest to take an AP course that the school didn’t offer. His emphasis on scholarship promises to make this terrific school even better. I also have to make a plug for the Strings program, led by Charles DuChateau. Mr. D comes from a Bway background and the level of professionalism he has brought to the Strings program and Spr musical would rival any. Go Tuckahoe! Close Quote

Open Quote I've been going to this school ever since Kindergarten (the elementary school is down the road). I've never had trouble or concerns, even with the new Common Core system, as it was recently implemented into our curriculum. Us students have struggled a bit within the year, however I believe that the CC added more obstacles to challenge us, and will be beneficial in the long term.

The teaching is phenomenal and the bullying is nonexistent (it's a small school, probably less than 380 students, and we act as a family). Friends naturally span through grade barriers, and there's no such thing as sitting alone. New students are often amazed at how quickly they can fit in.

I love each and every teacher dearly, and they offer extra help after school on designated days or by appointment. There's no need to pay for a tutor when you have caring teachers who know your weaknesses as well as your strengths, offering a more valuable improvement.

There are several after school clubs to join such as Tech crew, Drama, Dance, Chess, Science Olympiad, Debate, Art club, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Football, Tennis, Swimming, Golf, Ski club, Track, Bowling, Choir, Volleyball, and many more. Teachers are always willing to listen to suggestions and ideas about possible clubs.

Tuckahoe High School truly is a second home to me, and I strive as a student to represent it. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
