Hyde Park Middle School

Summary:

Hyde Park Middle School is a public magnet middle school in Las Vegas, Nevada that serves 1,387 students in grades 6-8. This high-performing school consistently outshines the Clark County and Nevada state averages in academic achievement, ranking among the top 25% of middle schools in the state.

In the 2023-2024 school year, 52.4% of Hyde Park students were proficient or better in SBAC Reading, compared to 39.3% for Clark County and 41.3% for Nevada. In SBAC Mathematics, 45.7% of Hyde Park students were proficient or better, compared to 30.1% for Clark County and 32.6% for Nevada. The school has also been ranked among the top 20-30 middle schools in Nevada for the past several years, with a ranking of 37 out of 153 middle schools in the state for the 2023-2024 school year.

Despite having 100% of its students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high-need student population, Hyde Park Middle School spends more per student ($9,790 in 2021-2022) compared to the state and district averages. This suggests the school is able to allocate resources effectively to support student learning, as evidenced by its strong academic performance, particularly in comparison to nearby schools like Brinley J Harold Middle School and Fremont John C Professional Dev Middle School, which have much lower proficiency rates and statewide rankings.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Hype Park has completely demoralized my once eager and educationally motivated child. He is currently an 8th grader in the Magnet Program and cannot wait until his time at the Academy is over! He stuck it out so he wouldn't be labeled as a failure, but his entire time at Hyde Park has been a major disappointment from what we were told to expect at this school. It is NOT the "innovative" and "hands-on" learning atmosphere that was described at his orientation. Very few of the teachers motivate the child for what they term "accelerated" learning (which in actuality is just an increased amount of homework,) and it's next to impossible to get constructive help from the teachers for children who are struggling. We no longer advocate the CCSD Magnet Program because of the heartbreak we experienced at Hyde Park and are sending all three of our kids to regular public Middle Schools and High Schools from here on out. When you consider the distance from home he faced every day, and the little value he received for his pains, AP classes at a closer location and within reach of friends are looking pretty much equivalent! Open Quote Some of the best years of my life there, with brilliant and inspiring educators at the helm of the ship. They have helped my fellow peers and I start to understand the REAL world, and the pure work that it will take to go far, and gave us the tools to go farther than we ever thought. Everyone will have different experiences; Some dislike it, some find it to be "okay", and its life changing for others. However, in my experience, I recommend it (The Academy program for Math/Science) to any student who is at least semi-serious about their future. I'm a musician, pursuing music education up in New England and Britain and looking into the Conducting and Orchestral Performance area. But that didn't matter, as these teachers taught me to question things, to really THINK, work with diligence, organize difficult messes and challenges, and to be inspired to find true meaning and value in the various pursuits this silly little cacophony of music we call life. Amazing. Simply amazing. Close Quote

Open Quote Hyde Park Middle School, what can I say? This middle school changed my life and gave me the opportunity to do my best. It was hard but in the end, it was all worth it. If it weren't for Hyde Park, I probably would have never received the opportunity of going to Phillips Exeter Academy. Through Hyde Park, I learned many things that have helped me succeed in life and the students there are all, for the most part, very welcoming and fun to hang out with. The teachers are some of the best teachers I've ever had. They're always willing to help you with any questions you have. And if you like playing an instrument, the orchestra at Hyde Park is the best, in all aspects. My experience with the orchestra at Hyde Park was one of a kind, traveling to other places in the U.S. and the world, competing, giving concerts, and just playing for fun. The people there also made it an unforgettable experience. So if you're in 5th, 6th, or 7th grade, I recommend Hyde Park as your middle school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
