Over the past several years, Wasden Howard Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Nevada elementary schools, with a ranking between 201-299 out of around 380 schools.

Wasden Howard Elementary has a significantly higher percentage of Hispanic students (around 51%) compared to the nearby schools, which range from 27-80% Hispanic. It also has a higher percentage of African American students (around 17-22%) compared to the nearby schools (7-27%). Academically, the school consistently underperforms compared to the Clark County and Nevada averages on SBAC Math and Reading assessments. For example, in 2023-2024, the school's proficiency rates were 27.5% in Math and 34% in Reading, compared to 30.1% and 39.3% for Clark County, and 32.6% and 41.3% for Nevada, respectively. Additionally, Wasden Howard Elementary has a relatively high student-teacher ratio of 16.2 in 2022-2023, compared to the nearby schools, which range from 13.8 to 19.6.

Despite the increase in per-student spending at Wasden Howard Elementary, from $10,254 in 2018-2019 to $13,482 in 2021-2022, the school's academic performance has not shown significant improvement. This suggests that simply increasing funding may not be enough to drive meaningful change, and a more comprehensive approach may be needed. In contrast, some nearby schools, such as Hoggard Mabel Elementary, perform significantly better on academic measures, ranking in the top quarter of Nevada elementary schools. Understanding the factors that contribute to the success of these higher-performing schools could provide valuable insights for Wasden Howard Elementary.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My children were primarily homeschooled, so I had many reservations about them returning to a public school environment. I can honestly say the Principal Mr. DuChateu was helpful and accessible. He's strict but engaging. I loved my 2 youngest children's teachers, but was extremely disappointed with my 4th grade sons 4th grade teacher, as I found her to be unacessible and unattentive. Overall however, the entire staff (especially Ms Tracy the Guidance Counselor) are loving and desire to see the kids succeed. I recommend this school 100%!! Looking forward to the 2016-2017 school year :) Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
