Kisthardt Elementary School

Summary:

Kisthardt Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-5 in Hamilton, New Jersey, with 242 students that are predominantly Hispanic (64.05%). However, the school faces significant challenges, consistently ranking in the bottom 20% of New Jersey elementary schools with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Kisthardt Elementary's academic performance is a major concern, with proficiency rates on state assessments that are significantly below the state and Hamilton Township Public School District averages across all grade levels and subjects. The school also has a high rate of chronic absenteeism, rising from 6.5% in 2018-2019 to 20.9% in 2021-2022, well above the state and district averages. Additionally, a high percentage of Kisthardt students (59.09%) qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage.

While Kisthardt Elementary is part of the same school district as nearby schools like Yardville Heights Elementary, McGalliard Elementary, and George E. Wilson Elementary, its academic performance, chronic absenteeism, and percentage of economically disadvantaged students are significantly worse than these other schools. Addressing the challenges at Kisthardt Elementary will likely require a comprehensive, data-driven approach to improve educational outcomes for the students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The class size is out of control. 22+ students for 1 kindergarten teacher doesn't seem reasonable. Lots of busy work and very little teacher student interaction. The curriculum is dull and repetitive- It's glorified babysitting. The principal's understanding of children is questionable. One would think she had never had any experience with children. Her expectations are ridiculous and she seems to enjoy punishing children who don't conform to her "seen and not heard" philosophy. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
