Summary:

Richardson Park Elementary School is a public elementary school in Wilmington, Delaware, serving students from kindergarten to 5th grade. The school is part of the Red Clay Consolidated School District, which has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Richardson Park Elementary School faces significant challenges, with consistently high chronic absenteeism rates, low academic performance, and particularly poor outcomes for Hispanic students and English Language Learners. The high rates of chronic absenteeism and the large percentage of Hispanic and English Language Learner students at Richardson Park Elementary School may be contributing factors to the school's low academic performance, which is likely influenced by a combination of demographic factors and systemic issues.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I choiced my son into the Richardson Park Learning Center for kindergarten. He loved it and so did I. I was so upset when they decided to close it. My son loved the learning center so much we decided to try him out in a regular class with a special education teacher and well and one on one sessions at Richardson Park Elementary. He did so well that by second grade he no longer needed an IEP. There is always room for improvement but as long as my child continues to enjoy waking up and going to school to learn everyday, I will continue to choice my child to Richardson Park Elementary School. Open Quote The school is no longer a Junior High school, so there are not any 7th through 9th grade students. It makes me sad to see a rating so low from someone who clearly hasn't had any contact with our school for many years. Rather than anonymously rate us as a 1 out of 5, why don't you come in and be a mentor to our students or volunteer your time to help tutor kids. You will then see how great our school is. Admittedly, our test scores are not where we want them to be, but our children are learning and growing. I'm sorry you had a negative experience when you attended Park, but that was before I was even born, so I hope that you'll give us another chance. By the way, I'm the Principal of the building, so I may be a little biased in my opinions, but my door is always open and we love having past Park students come back to the school community. Open Quote I attended this school back in the 1960's...I'm not surprised to see that its rating hasn't improved. Bullying and sexual harassment were everyday problems in grades 7 thru 9, and while I loved learning, I dreaded going to that school. It didn't do any good to report these issues to teachers -- they simply didn't care to deal with "social" problems. I'm happy to hear that there's finally nationwide focus on bullying -- my bullies are now grandparents...maybe the shoe's on the other foot now. Teachers need to get involved, set zero tolerance policies, and reprimand bullies and sexual harassers with enough clout to make the lesson stick for a lifetime. No child should be afraid to go to school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
