Rocky Mountain Prep Noel

Summary:

Rocky Mountain Prep Noel is a public charter middle school located in Denver, Colorado, serving grades 6-8 with a student population of 194 and is part of the School District No. 1, which is ranked 78 out of 116 districts in Colorado and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite its small class sizes, Rocky Mountain Prep Noel consistently performs significantly below the district and state averages in both English Language Arts (ELA) and Math proficiency on the CMAS assessments. In the 2023-2024 school year, only 11% of all grades were proficient or better in ELA, compared to 40.7% for the district and 44.1% for the state, and only 4.5% were proficient or better in Math, compared to 31.2% for the district and 34.2% for the state. The school's performance has been declining over the years, with its statewide ranking dropping from 246 out of 400 Colorado middle schools in 2015-2016 to 475 out of 485 in 2023-2024, with a 0-star rating. In contrast, nearby schools like DSST: Conservatory Green Middle School, Denver Green School Northfield, and DSST: Elevate Northeast Middle School generally perform much better academically.

The low academic performance of Rocky Mountain Prep Noel may be related to its high percentage of minority and economically disadvantaged students. In the 2022-2023 school year, the student population was 73.71% Hispanic, 13.4% African American, and only 4.12% White, with 88.89% to 91.44% of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch over the past three school years. The School District No. 1 and the school's leadership should closely examine the factors contributing to the school's underperformance and implement targeted interventions and support to improve student outcomes, especially for this demographic.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote my niece has been coming here for the first year, i have attended two of their committee meetings and i just love the communication the Principal has with us parents. not every Principal takes the time to meet the parents, at least from my past experience with all other principals. I also do like the attention they give the students and the after school tutoring program they provide for students who need it. office staff is wonderful and very nice. you get calls from teachers once a month communicating about your students progress. I am definitely bringing my niece for next school year, and in two more years my son will be coming here as well. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
