Rosecrest School

Summary:

Rosecrest School is an elementary school in Salt Lake City, Utah, serving 327 students in grades PK-6. It is part of the Granite School District, which is ranked 72 out of 98 districts in the state, but Rosecrest has consistently maintained a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger, indicating it is performing above average compared to other elementary schools in Utah.

Rosecrest School stands out for its strong academic performance, consistently outperforming the Granite District and state averages in RISE assessments for English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science across grades 3-5. For example, in 2023-2024, 63.5% of 5th graders at Rosecrest were proficient or better in ELA, compared to 34.8% in the Granite District and 48.3% statewide. Additionally, Rosecrest has a relatively low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 17.09% to 21.26% over the past three years, which is lower than the state average and suggests a higher socioeconomic status of the student population.

When compared to other elementary schools in the Granite District and nearby Salt Lake District, Rosecrest School stands out as a high-performing school. For example, Eastwood School and William Penn School, both in the Granite District, have significantly higher test scores and statewide rankings than Rosecrest. However, Rosecrest's spending per student and student-teacher ratio are comparable to the nearby schools, suggesting that these factors alone do not fully explain its academic performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Everyone at this school is really nice and the teachers are great BUT the class size is insanely high. Granite needs more teachers at this school or needs to redraw boundaries. Close Quote

Open Quote We have been at Rosecrest for 3 years and Wow the teachers here have been amazing! My two kids have very different learning styles and they were able to meet both of their needs adequately. They have 3 recesses a day but for shorter increments and this allows my kids to feel like they're not sitting ALL day long. They have a great front office and the school is always planning fun assemblies. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
