Dilworth School

Summary:

Dilworth School is a public elementary school in Salt Lake City, Utah, serving 492 students in grades PK-6. The school consistently outperforms the Salt Lake District and the state of Utah in academic proficiency, with 73% of 3rd graders proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 44% for the district and 46.7% for the state. Dilworth School also ranks in the top 25% of Utah elementary schools, receiving a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger for the 2023-2024 school year.

Dilworth School's strong academic performance is further highlighted by its proximity to other high-performing elementary schools in the area, such as Hawthorne School, Bonneville School, and Uintah School. This suggests a concentration of educational excellence in the local area, which could be attributed to factors like community engagement, parental involvement, and the overall quality of the Salt Lake District.

Additionally, Dilworth School has a relatively low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (19.31% in 2022-2023), which is lower than the district average. This could be a contributing factor to the school's strong academic performance, as research has shown a correlation between socioeconomic status and educational outcomes. As Dilworth School continues to thrive, it may consider ways to further diversify its student population and explore best practices from its neighboring high-performing schools.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Second grade teacher was not pleasant. Referred to our son as 'disgusting'. Switched teachers halfway through the year and had remarkable improvement. Third grade teacher was unimpressionable. 4th grade teacher was amazing! She ran a tight ship and our son benefited greatly from it. 5th grade teacher has failed when it comes to communication. Indicated at PTC our son's ASD, she said they would get him support, never did. I wrote to his teacher in his planner about it, no response. Finally, 3/4 of the way through the school year, they finally decided to create an IEP. I have not been very satisfied with communication (this year) and especially the 2nd grade teacher who they asked to come out of retirement and was formerly in administration, not teaching. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
