Twin Creeks Middle

Summary:

Twin Creeks Middle is a public middle school in Spring, Texas, serving 973 students in grades 6-8 and part of the Spring Independent School District, which is ranked 776 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Twin Creeks Middle has a diverse student population, with a higher percentage of African American (35.87%) and Hispanic (46.45%) students compared to nearby schools like York J.H. and Clark Intermediate, which have a higher percentage of white students. However, the school's academic performance, as measured by STAAR test scores, is generally lower than the state and district averages, with proficiency rates ranging from 42.91% to 47% in reading and 16.36% to 32.42% in math, compared to the state averages of 52.08% to 54.45% and 31.89% to 40.23%, respectively. The school's performance also varies significantly across different student subgroups, with Asian and Native American students performing relatively better, while African American, Hispanic, and low socioeconomic status students perform in the bottom 50% of Texas middle schools.

Compared to other nearby schools, such as Spring Leadership Academy, which outperforms Twin Creeks Middle in both reading and math proficiency, Twin Creeks Middle's performance has declined over the years, with its statewide ranking dropping from 858 out of 1987 Texas middle schools in 2015-2016 to 1692 out of 2361 in 2023-2024. This trend is concerning and may be linked to the school's high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds (83.35% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch), as well as potential equity issues that need to be addressed.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote In my opinion the administration at Twin Creeks is lacking. We applied for a transfer to the school, as did quiet a few other families. We were told to leave our child's application and that there would be a committee review to choose the transfer students who would be accepted for next school year. We left our sons application and attached to it was an envelope with letters of recommendation from 4 of his teachers. They never even opened the envelope to read the letters ,the Staples and tape were still in tack on the envelope. We waited for over a week and when we called today to check on the status they told us to come in that the paper was signed. When we arrived we were told that the transfer had been denied due to the over crowding of the school they wouldn't be accepting any transfer students this year. So they made our family and all of the other families wait all this time just to tell us they didn't have the space for new transfers. It would have been more professional if they had told us and all of the other families that no one ould be accepted due to over crowding. We waisted all of this time on Twin Creeks when we could have applied at other school who were accepting transfers. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
