T H Rogers School

Summary:

T H Rogers School is an alternative public magnet school in Houston, Texas that serves grades K-12 and is part of the Houston Independent School District, which is ranked 572 out of 968 school districts in Texas and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

T H Rogers School stands out for its exceptional academic performance, significantly outperforming the district and state on STAAR tests across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2023-2024, 96.59% of 3rd graders were proficient or better in STAAR Reading, compared to 44.66% for the district and 48.85% for the state. The school also has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 15.1 to 17.2 over the past three years. However, the school's 0% four-year graduation rate is concerning, especially when compared to nearby charter schools like Texas Connections Academy At Houston, which had an 89.7% four-year graduation rate in 2022-2023.

T H Rogers School's student population is unique, with a majority Asian student population (56.16% in 2022-2023) and a relatively low percentage of economically disadvantaged students (14.86% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch). When compared to other nearby schools, such as Community Services-Sec, which had significantly lower proficiency rates on STAAR tests, T H Rogers School stands out as an exceptional academic institution. However, the school's low graduation rate and unique student racial makeup warrant further investigation and analysis to understand the underlying factors contributing to these outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I attend this school and I am proud of it! This school has an amazing academics program. But don't let that fool you: it isn't only academics. The students that are able to, usually opt for one of our school's amazing academics teams. The student body is quite diverse and by going to this school you will be exposed to many different people with different cultures, ideas, and experiences. In all, I love this schools and I'm so glad I made the choice to apply and eventually attend this school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
