Shawnee Trail Elementary

Summary:

Shawnee Trail Elementary is a public elementary school in Frisco, Texas, serving students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. The school has seen a shift in its student racial makeup, with a decrease in the percentage of White and Asian students and an increase in African American and Hispanic students. However, the school's academic performance, particularly for Hispanic, White, and low-income students, lags behind the district and state averages.

Shawnee Trail Elementary's STAAR test scores are generally above the state average but behind the Frisco Independent School District across most grade levels and subjects. The school's performance is particularly low in 5th-grade STAAR Science, where only 16.07% of students were proficient or better, compared to 48.39% for Frisco ISD and 26.29% for Texas. Additionally, the school's statewide ranking has steadily declined over the past several years, from a high of 625th out of 4,260 Texas elementary schools in 2013-2014 to 1,712th out of 4,675 schools in the 2023-2024 school year.

When compared to other elementary schools in the Frisco ISD, such as McSpedden Elementary, Talley Elementary, and Curtsinger Elementary, Shawnee Trail Elementary generally underperforms across multiple academic measures. This suggests that the school may need to examine the practices and strategies of its higher-performing peers to identify areas for improvement and ensure that all students receive a high-quality education.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Sadly this school is ok with bullies. No matter how many times you reach out nothing is done. Very frustrating to have your child sign a paper saying they wont bully friends and how to let them know if your being bullied do it can be stopped. Yet your child is being bullied and they are not stopping it or helping to stop it. Sad parent and a very hurt child. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
