Bright Academy

Summary:

Bright Academy is an elementary school located in Frisco, Texas, serving grades PK-5 with a student population of 449. It is part of the Frisco Independent School District, which is ranked 30th out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Bright Academy has a relatively diverse student population, with 24.05% White, 24.5% African American, 33.85% Hispanic, and 10.02% Asian students. However, its academic performance on STAAR tests has been mixed compared to the district and state averages. While it has shown improvement in some areas, such as 5th-grade reading and math, it still lags behind nearby top-performing schools like Vaughn Elementary and Allen Elementary. Bright Academy also has a relatively high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with 48.78% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.

Despite these challenges, Bright Academy performs well in serving its special education and gifted/talented student populations, ranking in the top quartile of Texas elementary schools in these categories. However, its performance varies significantly across different student subgroups, with struggles in serving Hispanic and English Language Learner students. Continued focus on improving academic outcomes, especially in reading and math, and addressing the needs of its socioeconomically disadvantaged students, will be crucial for Bright Academy's future success.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote We moved our son to Bright Academy from another IB school when it converted in 2018-2019 school year. The education is individualized for the student. The teacher culture is positive, upbeat and compassionate. You can really tell the teachers are experts in education and IB, empathetic and really care about each child. My son's scores went up 10-15 points putting him in the top 90's to 100. I was also provided a lot of detail around his levels and how he was doing through the year. There are no surprises which I appreciate. The school is also quick to respond and address questions, concerns or to provide generally clarity on anything. I love Bright Academy and Mrs. Dodon's team. I am so sad that he will be moving to Middle School. The info here isn't totally accurate. I would recommend visiting the school and seeing for yourself. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
