Curtsinger Elementary

Summary:

Curtsinger Elementary is a public elementary school in Frisco, Texas, serving students from kindergarten to 5th grade. With a diverse student population and a consistent 5-star rating from SchoolDigger, Curtsinger is a standout school in the highly-ranked Frisco Independent School District.

Curtsinger Elementary consistently outperforms state and district averages in STAAR test scores, with particularly strong performance in reading. The school's academic excellence extends across student subgroups, including female students, male students, Asian students, African American students, and special education students. While Curtsinger's performance is generally on par with or exceeds nearby schools like McSpedden Elementary, Borchardt Elementary, and Smith Elementary, it is outperformed by the exceptional Talley Elementary.

Curtsinger's diverse student population, with a higher percentage of African American and Hispanic students compared to some nearby schools, is a testament to the school's inclusive and equitable learning environment. Additionally, Curtsinger's relatively low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch suggests it serves a relatively affluent community, which may contribute to its strong academic performance. With a student-teacher ratio comparable to the district average, Curtsinger is well-positioned to provide personalized attention and support to its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The teachers appear disconnected and unmotivated. Many repetitious worksheets without any actual teaching or understanding occuring in the classrooms. There also seems to be a lack of support from the principal to hold the teachers accountable and provide them the resources they need to provide the best learning experience of the children. The teachers' latest request for a "big item" from the PTA was for individual Keurig coffee makers for each pod. There is something fundamentally wrong with teachers requesting perks for themselves over teaching aids for the classroom. We are disappointed that we purchased a house within a mile and simply assumed "blue ribbon" meant a quality of teacher. Sadly, it's based on test scores through memorization of repeated pre-tests. We hope that this isn't indicative of Frisco ISD as a whole and maybe just one bad school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
