However, the African American and Hispanic student subgroups perform relatively lower, ranking in the top 40% and top 60% of Texas high schools. Elkins High School's STAAR EOC test scores are generally higher than the district and state averages, particularly in subjects like Biology, English I and II Reading, and U.S. History. The school also maintains a strong 4-year graduation rate, ranging from 93.1% to 95.8% over the past 5 years, which is higher than the district and state averages.

When compared to other high schools in the area, Elkins High School generally outperforms schools with higher percentages of economically disadvantaged and minority students, such as Thurgood Marshall High School and Willowridge High School. However, it lags behind high-performing schools like Clements High School and Ridge Point High School in terms of overall academic rankings and test scores. This may be due in part to Elkins High School's lower spending per student compared to the district average.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Dealing with the administration of this school has been one of the worse experiences I have had in my life. You have to call over & over again or send a 100 emails. I had to get student affairs to contact the principal so she would return my calls. The only solution they offer is tutoring for a struggling student & all they told me was NO, NO, NO on my requests. In conferences, they not only insulted the teachers & their abilities to teach, but insulted myself &my daughter blaming us for her struggling grades. They failed to realize as they said this that it was us reaching out to them. I had to go as far as contacting the superintendent to get anything accomplished. I have been told several different stories on why schedules where changed, they contradicted themselves numerous times in conversations & just plain didn't care and seemed that instead of wanting to help, they just wanted to brush this under the rug. Word to the wise, document everything. I printed out phone logs, emails and recorded conversations and meetings. Its hard to argue with the facts. Perhaps the school and the learning environment would be a better place if there were administrators that actually listened and acted on such matters rather than ignore & insult concerned parents/teachers. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
