The school is part of the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District, which is ranked 407 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Ranchview High School stands out for its diverse student population, with a racial makeup of 10.24% White, 39.2% African American, 26.73% Hispanic, 19.04% Asian, and 4.68% two or more races. However, the school's academic performance, as measured by STAAR EOC test scores, is generally lower than the state and district averages, particularly in subjects like Algebra I, English I Reading, and U.S. History. Additionally, the school's dropout rate has been higher than the state average, reaching 2.5% in the 2020-2021 school year.

Compared to nearby schools, Ranchview High School's performance is lower than top-performing institutions like New Technical H S At Coppell and Great Hearts Irving Upper, but it outperforms lower-performing schools such as Grimes Education Center and Texans Can Academy - Carrollton-Farmers Branch. The school's high percentage of students (54.57% in 2022-2023) receiving free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a higher proportion of students from low-income families, may contribute to its academic performance challenges.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The education there is all very basic. The teachers are teaching their high school students, middle school level information. But the teachers by themselves are quite disrespectful. They say they want to teach the students but they don't do much except let them look at words on a paper. They don't help the students with what they need which is very sad and concerning, the teachers that are in these positions of power. But the real issue is with the students that attend Ranchview high school. They are all immature fifteen to eighteen-year-olds that disrespect every other school that plays sports, they are disrespectful, inappropriate and will start fights with their own classmates. But I won't forget the time I saw the high school's mascot defecating their rival school Uplift North Hills Preparatory's very own name and colors. Is this a school that I would take my child too? of course not. Do I recommend any parent to take their kids to this school definitely not. Every student there is disrespectful, the teachers are not doing their jobs and the school provides a below-average education that will not help your child in the future. Close Quote

Open Quote This is from the Perspective of a Ranchview Student:
The School is very diverse in all aspects and is gradually an up and coming. The size of the school greatly impairs what the school has the ability to do, and because of it's relatively small size it does not offer many amenities that a larger high school might have. The School has begun the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, which is essentially a different type of Advanced Courses more widely know throughout the world and sometimes regarded as better or more advanced. Because of it's small population Ranchview is unable to offer both AP and IB classes. The Area around the school is largely a bedroom community, with many homeowners. Although a significant portion do not attend this public school, Ranchview is still a good school overall.
Ranchview struggles much because of it's size, and it was projected by this time it was to be a 4A or 5A school, although it is still only 3A. Although the this does limit what Ranchview can do, I am disappointed with many of the choices Ranchview has made with the classes it chooses to offer. Ranchview lacks a Soccer team, but yet has a golf, swim, and tennis team.
The teachers in general are probably slightly below average. The Advanced learning teachers are probably on par, but a large portion of the Language Arts and Science department are lacking. I am fairly confident that most teacher who teach IB, just like the ones at Ranchview, do not really know HOW to teach it. The district is general has a different curriculum, and I as a student, find it to be a little behind compared to the North Dallas school districts. I attend an SAT school, where much of the student body at the school is from Richardson and Plano. Even though I am in both the top 10 and top 10% of my class. I find that I am behind or lacking compared to the students who are barely in the top 25% of their classes, or even lacking in comparison to freshman from the North Dallas school districts.
The general attitude of the students towards the school is not very positive, many of the students are disappointed with the school's size and the attitude of the students. The student body is not overly active, and probably in fact, could be more active. The student body, in terms of general sex and drugs is on par. These items are present but not dominant over the school. The school's first graduating class went "crazy" so at one point the school did have the highest rate of STDs in the district. Gangs are virtually non existent, both in the school and area.
The School is relatively new, so much of the general population in the area has probably not warmed up the school. The surrounding area are very clean and new as well, and the school does have plans to expansion both population wise and physically. The Campus is very clean and new, and technologically up to date.
I believe their is much room for improvement, but as the school grows gradually, the school had a undoubtedly bright future. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
