Summary:

KIPP Oak Cliff Academy is a public charter high school in Dallas, Texas, serving 295 students in grades 9-12. The school has a predominantly Hispanic (54.92%) and African American (41.69%) student population, with a high percentage (83.73%) of students from low-income families.

Despite its status as a charter school, KIPP Oak Cliff Academy has consistently underperformed compared to the state and its KIPP Texas Public Schools district on STAAR End-of-Course (EOC) exams. In the 2023-2024 school year, the school's proficiency rates ranged from just 11.11% in Algebra I to 37.65% in Biology, significantly lower than the state and district averages. The school's student subgroups, including female, male, African American, Hispanic, and special education students, have all ranked in the bottom 20-30% of Texas high schools in recent years, indicating significant achievement gaps. Additionally, the school has experienced an increase in its dropout rate, rising from 1.3% in 2019-2020 to 5.1% in 2021-2022, which is higher than the state average.

Interestingly, KIPP Oak Cliff Academy's performance lags behind both nearby Gateway Charter Academy - Middle - High School and Kathlyn Joy Gilliam Collegiate Academy, which have higher academic proficiency rates and better student group rankings. The school's performance is also lower than that of nearby traditional public high schools, such as South Oak Cliff High School and Wilmer-Hutchins High School, which have higher proficiency rates and graduation rates. Despite its relatively low student-teacher ratio, KIPP Oak Cliff Academy's academic performance has not improved, suggesting that addressing the school's challenges will be crucial for improving the educational outcomes of its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Can't keep teachers. Make alot of promises but never fulfill them. The kids are not motivated nor challenged. These kids never go on college tours nor field trips since middle school. They promised us 6 years ago they were going to build a high school and our kids have two more years or school, and still no high school. No leadership at all. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
