Pittsburgh Minadeo K-5

Summary:

Pittsburgh Minadeo K-5 is an elementary school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, serving 293 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Pittsburgh School District, which is ranked 466 out of 610 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Pittsburgh Minadeo K-5 has consistently ranked in the bottom quarter of Pennsylvania elementary schools, with a ranking between 961 and 1213 out of 1,500+ schools over the past several years. The school's performance on PSSA tests is significantly below the state and district averages across all grade levels and subject areas, with only 21.4% of students proficient or better in PSSA Math, compared to 40.4% statewide and 26.7% in the Pittsburgh School District. The school's performance is particularly low for low-socioeconomic status (SES) students, ranking in the bottom 20% of Pennsylvania elementary schools for this subgroup.

While Pittsburgh Minadeo K-5 struggles to meet the academic needs of its students, the nearby Pittsburgh Colfax K-8 and Pittsburgh Greenfield K-8 schools have significantly higher academic performance, ranking in the top 25% of Pennsylvania elementary schools. These schools serve a similar demographic of students but appear to be more effective in supporting student learning. Additionally, the relatively stronger performance of Pittsburgh Minadeo K-5's African American and low-SES students compared to their peers statewide suggests that the school may have some effective strategies in place for supporting these subgroups, which could be further explored and scaled to benefit the entire student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Minadeo is a wonderful school that reflects the diversity of Pittsburgh neighborhoods. We've seen some difficulties in the past few years, but a new principal has breathed new life into the school. Enrollment has gone up almost 20 this year alone (after a year-over-year decline) and our parents and kids are more engaged than ever!

Be sure to visit any school before making decisions about which school to attend. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
