Roosevelt Elementary School

Summary:

Roosevelt Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, serving grades PK-6 with a total enrollment of 333 students. The school is part of the Ridgefield Park Public School District, which is ranked 360 out of 613 districts in New Jersey and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Roosevelt Elementary School has shown consistent improvement in its statewide ranking over the past 10 years, moving from 903rd out of 1,360 New Jersey elementary schools in 2018-2019 to 595th out of 1,338 in 2023-2024, earning a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school's performance on NJSLA assessments is generally higher than the district and state averages, particularly in English Language Arts (ELA). Within the Ridgefield Park Public School District, Roosevelt Elementary School generally outperforms the other two district elementary schools, Grant Elementary and Lincoln Elementary, on NJSLA assessments in both ELA and mathematics.

Roosevelt Elementary School has a relatively high percentage of students from low socioeconomic status (SES) backgrounds, at around 35% in recent years. This is higher than the district average and may contribute to the school's higher chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 13.6% to 22.0% over the past few years. However, the school's strong performance among its low-SES and Hispanic student subgroups suggests that it is effectively supporting these populations, despite the district's overall lower ranking. Continued focus on supporting all student subgroups and addressing attendance issues could help Roosevelt Elementary School further enhance its academic outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Both Speech as well as ESL rooms need to be emptied of old furniture and other items because the clutter has prohibited two teachers to conduct classes within their respective environments. These services are particularly necessary to an institution that houses about 57 percent Latino students who come from bilingual backgrounds. The Hispanic population has grown and services must be made available if better test scores are expected. Shame, shame, shame..... Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
