Summary:

Beech Street School is an elementary school in Manchester, New Hampshire, serving 473 students from kindergarten to 5th grade. The school is part of the Manchester School District, which is ranked 157 out of 163 districts in the state and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Beech Street School has consistently ranked among the lowest-performing elementary schools in New Hampshire, placing it in the bottom 10% of schools statewide. The school's performance varies significantly across different student subgroups, with African American students ranking 1st out of 1 school, but Hispanic and White students ranking 18th out of 19 and 227th out of 228, respectively. Academically, only 10% of Beech Street students were proficient or better in mathematics, compared to 41% statewide and 19% in the Manchester School District. Similarly, only 13% of students were proficient or better in reading, compared to 53% statewide and 29% in the district.

Nearby schools, such as Smyth Road School, located just 1.54 miles away, have significantly higher academic performance, with 46% of students proficient or better in mathematics and 42% in reading. Beech Street School's consistently low performance and the disparities between student subgroups suggest that the school may be facing systemic challenges that have not been adequately addressed, potentially linked to the high poverty rates and broader socioeconomic issues in the Manchester School District.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The teachers don't teach the kids as much. Instead they want the kids to play games In and out of class.
Second, the teachers are the most racist people ever to teach. School is dominated by minority students. All the white teachers come from outside of the city. Third, they suspend the children for a very minor incident. Especially black and Hispanic children. The teachers hit the children and speak in very unbelievable works. Calling a monkey to student.
I won't say more. The school needs to be investigated how the treat minority students. How come out of 180 school days 88 days kids suspended.
That is not one child
That's many many many! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
