Humboldt High School

Summary:

Humboldt High School is a public high school in Saint Paul, Minnesota, serving 1,031 students in grades 6-12. The school faces unique challenges, including a student population that is significantly more diverse than the state and district averages, persistent academic underperformance, and high dropout rates.

Humboldt High School has a higher percentage of Asian (44.42%) and African American (26.09%) students compared to the state and district averages. The school consistently performs below the state and district on standardized tests, with proficiency rates in Math, Reading, and Science significantly lower. While the school has seen improvements in its four-year graduation rate, the dropout rate remains high, ranging from 2.3% to 11.7% over the past five years. Student performance also varies significantly across different subgroups, with Asian and English Language Learner students outperforming their African American, Hispanic, and Special Education peers.

Humboldt High School's student population also faces significant socioeconomic challenges, with over 90% of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. These factors suggest the need for a comprehensive, data-driven approach to address the unique needs of the school community. Nearby schools like Focus Beyond, Saint Paul Online High School, and Journeys Secondary School may offer alternative options for families in the Saint Paul Public Schools district.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I attended this school all 4 years of high school. Its really not as bad as the rankings would suggest. Its your typical inner city school. The teachers care about students success and you really get out of it what you put in. For example. my best friend graduated in the top 10 and now holds a master's degree from hamline university. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
