Elm Creek Elementary

Summary:

Elm Creek Elementary is a public elementary school in Maple Grove, Minnesota, serving students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade as part of the Osseo Public School District. The school consistently outperforms the district and state averages on academic assessments, with particularly strong results in 3rd grade Math. Elm Creek's diverse student population, with higher percentages of African American, Hispanic, and multi-racial students compared to nearby schools like Fernbrook Elementary and Rice Lake Elementary, is a key differentiating factor.

Elm Creek Elementary has seen a steady increase in the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, reaching 40.69% in 2022-2023, higher than some nearby schools. This indicates a growing need for additional resources and support to address the unique challenges faced by students from lower-income families. The school's relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 13.5 to 16.1 in recent years, may be a contributing factor to its academic success, highlighting the importance of maintaining appropriate staffing levels to provide personalized attention and support.

While Elm Creek Elementary's performance on state assessments is generally stronger than that of some nearby schools, such as Edinbrook Elementary and Crest View Elementary, other schools in the Osseo Public School District, like Oxbow Creek Elementary, have demonstrated even higher academic achievement. This suggests that factors beyond just district affiliation may contribute to a school's success, and Elm Creek Elementary's continued focus on equity and supporting all student subgroups will be crucial for maintaining its strong performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote We open enrolled here from another school in the district when my son was in 1st grade because we wanted him to have a better learning environment than what he was getting and he had issues with being bullied, and we've been very happy. The principal is amazing. The school has a great PTA and parents are very involved. You get the feeling that everyone knows everybody. Close Quote

Open Quote This has got to be the worst school in Maple Grove. The school is a bully's paradise, and the administration pretends to care when in reality apathy is the norm. Some teachers are literally going through the motions , and the kids have taken over the classrooms. Instead of using their heads to figure out how to work best with your child, the teachers will ask you what THEY should do. And I'm not talking about suggestions, they are asking parents what to do. My poor daughter has the misfortune of going to this school and if I could I'd trade places with her I would. Better than that I'd teach the class myself and do the job better Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
