As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote 30 Plus in school of grammar classes
Teacher turn over is very high
The building is falling apart and lacks many things
Focus is on the School of Rhetoric where they are lucky to get 10-15 in a class
This school is not for children who are struggling learners as they do not believe in differentiating or teaching different ways to meet students needs.
High volume in homework even when research shows that more homework does not increase student intelligence or knowledge
Poor to no technology exposure
Most teachers stay less than 2 years so work environment is poor which means the leadership is lacking at all levels. Close Quote

Open Quote For families interested in a very challenging, academically-focused classical education, Parnassus is a great choice. In addition to the usual subjects, elemntary age kids are taking a deep dive into grammar, history, science, Spanish and Latin. They are also focusing on public speaking skills and character development. There are no silly parties, videos shown in the classrooms, or computer time to play "educational games." Kids read and discuss classical books that have withstood the test of time. The school has been accused of being academically elitist. I don't think that is true. Quite the opposite -- it sets the bar high for everyone. There is no gifted and talented program. Everybody takes part in the same rigorous program. Goethe's maxim is alive and well. “If you treat an individual as he is, he will remain as he is, but if you treat him as if he were what he ought to be and could be, he will become what he ought to be and could be.” Parnassus has also been accused of not being fun. That is true in the sense that it does not seek to educate by entertaining. It provides a path to the deeper joy that comes from mastering difficult tasks, having the freedonm that comes when they are willing to risk failure, learning that perserverance will bring them closer to your goals, and acquiring a strong base of knowledge and the skills of logic and rhetoric that will allow them to forge their own path. Parnassus (and classical schools like it) are certainly not the only path to success. If it isn't your cup of tea, that is ok. We are fortunate to have a broad spectrum of choices in public education. Close Quote

Open Quote Very unhappy with the Special Education Program at Parnassus. This school is equipped to handle children in the mainstream only. Their SE program is lacking and I am sorely disappointed in the way they handle and accommodate their SE scholars. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
