Green Acres Elementary School

Summary:

Green Acres Elementary School is a public elementary school in Warren, Michigan, serving students from kindergarten to 5th grade as part of the Warren Consolidated Schools district.

Green Acres has a diverse student population, with a higher percentage of Asian students compared to the district and state averages. However, the school's academic performance, as measured by M-Step test scores, is generally lower than the district and state averages, particularly in 3rd-grade English Language Arts. Green Acres also experiences high rates of chronic absenteeism, with 22.1% of students chronically absent in the 2022-2023 school year, higher than the district and state averages. The school has a high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a relatively high proportion of students from low-income families.

When comparing Green Acres to other nearby schools in the same district, such as Susick Elementary School and Cromie Elementary School, it appears to perform similarly or slightly worse academically. However, the school's Asian and African American students generally perform better than the overall student population, while White and English Language Learner students tend to perform worse. Despite the higher per-student spending at Green Acres, this does not seem to translate into significantly better academic outcomes. The school has seen a significant decrease in chronic absenteeism, from 30.2% in 2021-2022 to 22.1% in 2022-2023, which may be an area to explore further to understand the factors contributing to this positive trend.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Green Acres has a caring staff.... That is where it ends. Parents are trashy, fighting in the parking lot, arguing in front of the kids. Playground is filled with garbage all of the time (literally), plastic alcohol containers, food bags, water bottles, spoons, dirty diapers. Not the environment I want my children to continue to be apart of. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
