High School

Summary:

High School is a public magnet high school located in Harrison Township, Michigan, serving grades 9-12 with a total enrollment of 1,246 students. The school is part of the L'Anse Creuse Public Schools district, which is ranked 288 out of 610 districts in Michigan and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Compared to the nearby High School North, High School has a more diverse student population with a higher percentage of African American (20.39%) and Hispanic (3.29%) students. However, High School's academic performance, as measured by standardized test scores, is generally lower than High School North, with only 19.7% of students proficient or better in SAT/Mathematics, compared to 34.5% at High School North. Additionally, High School has a higher dropout rate (5.0%) and chronic absenteeism rate (32.4%) than High School North.

While High School has a higher four-year graduation rate (92.8%) compared to the nearby DiAnne M Pellerin Center (60.6%) and Chippewa Valley Adult and Mohegan Alt Educ (29.8%), the school's overall performance has been declining over the years, from a high ranking of 219 out of 835 Michigan high schools in 2016-2017 to 318 out of 743 in 2023-2024. This suggests a need for the school to address the underlying factors contributing to this decline and implement strategies to improve student outcomes, particularly for underperforming subgroups.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My children do good in school, mostly A's and B's. But feel the teachers put notes up on the board and expect them too study on there own. I like the school but think they need to take more time watching HOW the teachers teach. I spend a lot of the time reteaching my children. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
