Bellview Elementary School

Summary:

Bellview Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Eastpointe, Michigan, serving grades 3-5 with a student population of 224. Despite its small size, the school has consistently ranked among the lowest-performing elementary schools in the state, with a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger for the past several years.

Bellview Elementary faces significant challenges, including a student population that is 72.77% African American, far higher than the state average and nearby schools. This racial disparity is reflected in the school's academic performance, with only 9.6% of 3rd graders, 12.2% of 4th graders, and 15.3% of 5th graders proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to state averages of 39.6%, 43.3%, and 44%, respectively. Additionally, Bellview Elementary has had extremely high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 19.7% to 59.0% over the past several years, significantly higher than the state average and nearby schools like Joseph G Steenland Elementary School and Ruth H Green Elementary School.

Despite having the highest per-student spending, $16,831, among the nearby schools, Bellview Elementary continues to struggle academically. This suggests that simply increasing funding may not be the sole solution, and a more comprehensive approach is needed to address the school's challenges. The high percentage of students (over 80%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch at Bellview Elementary indicates that the school serves a population facing significant economic disadvantages, which may require additional resources and targeted support to address the unique needs of these students. Addressing the root causes of Bellview Elementary's persistent low performance, such as racial disparities and chronic absenteeism, will be crucial for the Eastpointe Community Schools district to improve educational outcomes for its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Unfriendly principle.48 to 35 students to class. The teacher my child has now seems depress always crying about her life. The teacher even stated to her class that her life stinks. My child is stress out from the lack of correct discipline.Correct the kids that are bad not the good ones too.My child use to be excited about learning -not no more.Teachers screaming all the time and the noon aides have power trips as well.Noon aides hen peck the parents as well about parking. You'll be stress out about parking there.Heck they'll even call the cops on parents who are trying to pick up their kids for pets sakes! The education went down big time there. There is no respect for parents there thats why parents don't get involved.I hate hate East Detroit schools.I will be looking at different districts. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
