Beverly Middle School

Summary:

Beverly Middle School is a public middle school serving 1,367 students in grades 5-8 in Beverly, Massachusetts, which is part of the Beverly school district. The school has a more diverse student population compared to many nearby schools, with around 72% White, 17% Hispanic, and smaller percentages of African American, Asian, and multi-racial students.

Academically, Beverly Middle School generally performs on par with or slightly above the state average on MCAS proficiency tests in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. However, its performance lags behind some of the higher-performing nearby schools like Masconomet Regional Middle School, Miles River Middle, and Marblehead Veterans Middle School. The school performs particularly well for its African American and Hispanic student subgroups, ranking in the top 50 and top 100 middle schools in the state, respectively, for these subgroups.

One area of potential concern is the school's higher student-teacher ratio of 12.3, which is higher than many nearby schools and may impact the level of individual attention and support students receive. Additionally, the school's racial diversity has become slightly less diverse over the past few years, and its overall academic performance has fluctuated, suggesting inconsistencies or sensitivity to changes in the state's assessment and accountability system.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
