Knight Middle

Summary:

Knight Middle is a public middle school in Louisville, Kentucky, serving 452 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the Jefferson County school district, which is ranked 141 out of 159 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. Unfortunately, Knight Middle has consistently ranked in the bottom 10% of Kentucky middle schools over the past decade, with a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger for the past several years.

Knight Middle's academic performance is significantly below the state and district averages across all subject areas and grade levels. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, only 9% of 7th-grade students were proficient or better in Mathematics, compared to 25% in the Jefferson County district and 39% statewide. The school's performance is particularly concerning for certain student subgroups, such as African American, Hispanic, and low socioeconomic status students, who rank in the bottom 25% of Kentucky middle schools in Mathematics and Reading.

While nearby Frederick Law Olmsted Academy South, Frederick Law Olmsted Academy North, and Newburg Middle also perform poorly compared to state averages, they generally outperform Knight Middle. In contrast, middle schools in the higher-performing Bullitt County district, such as Eastside Middle School and Hebron Middle School, have much higher proficiency rates, suggesting that the challenges faced by Knight Middle may be specific to the Jefferson County district or the local community.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Alright, where should I start? Well how about the teachers who have favourites and if you're not their favourite then you don't get any help on a single thing. The staff doesn't care if you are failing because of a teacher. Yet if a student holds another students hand then they will get yelled at. Male and Female get treated differently. To not being able to do certain sports, to not being able to wear shorts or tank tops. Transgender/genderfluid/non-binary students get shamed for and get no support at all. The food gets cut down and some grades barely get any. Sure some teachers are kind yet it doesn't balance out all the horribleness. Very unepic. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
