Hebron Middle School

Summary:

Hebron Middle School is a public middle school located in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, serving 536 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the Bullitt County School District, which is ranked 112 out of 159 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Hebron Middle School faces several academic challenges. Its performance on the Kentucky State Assessments (KSA) is generally below the state and district averages across various subjects and grade levels. For example, in 2023-2024, the percentage of students proficient or better in Mathematics ranged from 32% to 40% at Hebron, compared to 36-42% for the Bullitt County district and 39-42% for the state. Hebron's performance is particularly low in the areas of Science (21% proficient) and Writing for 8th grade (67% proficient), compared to the district and state. The school's performance also varies significantly across different student subgroups, with male students, Hispanic students, and those from higher socioeconomic backgrounds performing better than female students, students with disabilities, and those from low-income families.

While Hebron Middle School performs better than some nearby schools, such as Bullitt Lick Middle School and Zoneton Middle School, it lags behind the top-performing schools in the region, like Eastside Middle School, which is located just 3.89 miles away. Hebron's statewide ranking has also declined from 92 out of 330 Kentucky middle schools in 2016-2017 to 171 out of 324 in 2023-2024, indicating a relative decline in performance over time. The school's high proportion of economically disadvantaged students, with 52.43% receiving free or reduced-price lunch, likely contributes to its lower academic performance compared to more affluent nearby schools.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
