Delta High School

Summary:

Delta High School is a public high school located in Muncie, Indiana, serving grades 9-12 with a student population of 787. The school is part of the Delaware Community School Corporation, which is ranked 61 out of 381 school districts in Indiana and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Delta High School has consistently ranked among the top-performing high schools in Indiana, with a peak ranking of 39 out of 388 schools in the 2020-2021 school year. The school's students outperform the state and district averages in standardized tests, such as the SAT and ILEARN assessments, and the school has maintained a high four-year graduation rate, ranging from 89.7% to 95.8% over the past five years. Additionally, Delta High School has shown strong performance for special education and low socioeconomic status (SES) student subgroups, ranking in the top 10% and top 5% of Indiana high schools, respectively, in the 2022-2023 school year. However, the school's student population is predominantly white, which is not reflective of the racial diversity seen in some of the nearby schools, such as Yorktown High School and Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities.

While Delta High School outperforms many of the surrounding schools in terms of academic metrics, the school has experienced a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, from 14.1% in the 2020-2021 school year to 31.5% in the 2021-2022 school year. This is an area that the school may need to address to maintain its high academic standards. Overall, Delta High School is a high-performing public high school that has consistently ranked among the top schools in Indiana, but the school's racial homogeneity and recent increase in chronic absenteeism are areas that warrant further examination and potential improvement efforts.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My oldest son graduated from Delta in 2011 & my other son will graduate this year. (2012) I have also worked there as a substitute teacher. DHS is an EXCELLENT school. Both of my sons have LOVED attending here. There are a variety of activites available for students from all walks of life. DHS excells in academics and athletics. (The football program is OUTSTANDING) Students at Delta are friendly, and don't tend to be as "clicky" as they can be at other schools. This is also a SAFE school. Teachers CARE about the students, and most have great relationships with their students. My oldest son is finishing up his first year at a small, private college with tough academic curriculum & he is doing VERY well. I feel that DHS prepared him well. My other son has been accepted at the same school. Both of them received honors scholarships, as well. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
