Woodland Middle School

Summary:

Woodland Middle School is a public middle school located in Stockbridge, Georgia, serving 705 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the Henry County School District, which is ranked 152 out of 203 districts in the state.

Woodland Middle School stands out for its consistent academic performance, outperforming the county and state averages in the Milestones Assessment across various subjects and grade levels. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, 72.3% of Woodland Middle School students were proficient or better in Algebra I, compared to 33% for Henry County and 44% for the state of Georgia. However, the school's 2-star rating from SchoolDigger and middle-range ranking of 346 to 354 out of 588 Georgia middle schools suggest room for improvement.

Woodland Middle School serves a higher proportion of economically disadvantaged students, with 46.52% to 53.33% of its students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. This is significantly higher than the nearby Union Grove Middle School, which has a free and reduced lunch rate of 31.71%. Additionally, Woodland Middle School's decreasing spending per student and increasing student-teacher ratio indicate a potential reduction in resources available to the school, which may be a contributing factor to its middle-range performance.

Open Quote The teachers have poor attendance. My son has had a substitute teach in one of his classes for more than half the year. There are fights all the time in school and on the bus. My son has been bullied and has had multiple physical hits at school from bullies and adults are nowhere to be found. We have decided to leave woodland middle and start homeschooling. He will receive a better education because Henry county is a joke. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
