Dacula Elementary School

Summary:

Dacula Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 1,188 students in grades PK-5 in Dacula, Georgia, which is part of the Gwinnett County school district. However, the school's performance has been declining in recent years, with lower test scores, a drop in statewide ranking, and a decrease in its SchoolDigger rating.

Dacula Elementary's test scores are generally lower than the Gwinnett County and Georgia state averages across grade levels and subjects. For example, in 2023-2024, only 30.8% of 3rd graders were proficient or better in ELA, compared to 42.1% in Gwinnett County and 38.4% statewide. The school's statewide ranking has also declined from 135th out of 1,231 Georgia elementary schools in 2013-2014 to 524th out of 1,248 in 2023-2024, and its SchoolDigger rating has dropped from 4 stars to 3 stars over this time period. Additionally, Dacula Elementary has seen a significant increase in its free/reduced lunch rate, from 45.01% in 2020-2021 to 55.98% in 2022-2023, which is higher than the district average.

Compared to nearby schools in the Gwinnett County district, such as Puckett's Mill Elementary and Freeman's Mill Elementary, Dacula Elementary's performance is generally lower, with significantly higher test scores and statewide rankings at these other schools. Despite the higher spending per student at Dacula Elementary, the school's test scores and rankings are lower than the state and district averages, suggesting that factors beyond just funding may be contributing to the school's performance challenges.

Open Quote DES is a wonderful school. I currently have four children attending from grades K to 5th. My oldest is gifted and provided challenging course work in their fabulous FOCUS program. My 1st grader has needed a lot intervention and the school has done a great job of meeting all of her needs. Dacula Elementary has a diverse student body. The test scores have ping-ponged their ratings up and down, but this is an excellent school. All of the educators and administrators work hard to meet the needs of their students. I have been so pleased with the learning environment my children have been provided here. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
