Puckett's Mill Elementary School

Summary:

Puckett's Mill Elementary School is a top-performing public elementary school in Dacula, Georgia, serving 780 students in grades PK-5 and part of the Gwinnett County school district.

Puckett's Mill Elementary consistently ranks in the top 5% of Georgia elementary schools, with exceptional academic performance that significantly outpaces the district and state averages. In the 2023-2024 school year, the school ranked 48th out of 1,248 Georgia elementary schools and received a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger. This high achievement is reflected in the school's strong standardized test scores, with 71.5% of 3rd graders, 63% of 4th graders, and 86% of 5th graders proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to just 42.1%, 42.3%, and 53.4% for Gwinnett County, respectively. Puckett's Mill Elementary has maintained this consistent level of excellence over the past several years, thanks in part to its relatively low student-teacher ratio and low percentage of economically disadvantaged students, which range from 15.77% to 21.67% - significantly lower than some nearby schools like Dyer Elementary (49.59%) and Woodward Mill Elementary (47.25%).

While Puckett's Mill Elementary stands out for its exceptional performance, other high-achieving schools in the Gwinnett County district, such as Ivy Creek Elementary and Freeman's Mill Elementary, also demonstrate strong academic results and rankings within the state. The success of these schools may provide valuable insights and best practices that could be shared and implemented across the district to improve outcomes for all students.

Open Quote My children started K and 2nd grade this year. I have personally found the curriculm extremely challenging for their grades and I think the teachers are outstanding. The staff I've met and interacted with have all been approachable and very nice and responsive. Close Quote

Open Quote The school is all about test scores and not about the actual education of its students. The difficulty of the curriculum has been reduced and the subject matter is whatever seems to be politically correct. The teachers range from excellent to non caring, or even bullies of some students. If I could afford private school I would switch in a heartbeat. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
