Palmetto Elementary School

Summary:

Palmetto Elementary School is a public elementary school in Palmetto, Georgia, serving 358 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Fulton County School District, which is ranked 57th out of 203 districts in the state and has a 4-star rating.

Despite the school's relatively high per-student spending of around $15,000 and a low student-teacher ratio of 11:1, Palmetto Elementary School has consistently underperformed compared to the Fulton County and Georgia state averages on the Milestones Assessment. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, only 49% of 5th-grade students were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 59.6% for Fulton County and 48.2% for the state. The school also has a low statewide ranking, typically in the bottom half of Georgia elementary schools, and a 2 or 3-star rating from SchoolDigger, indicating below-average performance.

When comparing Palmetto Elementary to nearby schools in the Fulton County district, such as Liberty Point Elementary, Renaissance Elementary, and Campbell Elementary, the performance gap becomes even more pronounced. These schools generally have higher academic proficiency rates and statewide rankings, despite serving similarly high-poverty student populations. The challenges faced by Palmetto Elementary may require targeted interventions and support services to address the unique needs of its high-poverty student population.

Open Quote This school is very unorganized. The principal doesn’t know what she’s doing and depend on the staff to make solid decisions. The teachers have poor communication as well. Also Be award of the teachers treating the kids like middle school children. I had a serious issue with Mrs Daniels for u felt she was sneaky. I sent in large amounts of things for the classroom only to know e kept them for herself and didn’t share with the other teacher. Also my student was detained and I wasn’t given a meeting or anything... HORRIBLE STAFF!!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
