Jere L. Stambaugh Middle

Summary:

Jere L. Stambaugh Middle is a public middle school in Auburndale, Florida, serving 1,127 students in grades 6-8 as part of the Polk District, which is ranked 57 out of 68 districts in the state. Over the past several years, the school has consistently ranked in the bottom quarter of Florida middle schools, with a ranking between 720 and 1,094 out of around 1,200 schools.

Jere L. Stambaugh Middle faces significant challenges, including high chronic absenteeism rates (ranging from 23.0% to 52.8%), consistently low test scores across all subject areas and grade levels (with proficiency rates of 30% or less in English Language Arts and Math, compared to state averages of 54% and 56%), and a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (64.95% to 67.4%). When compared to nearby schools like Lawton Chiles Middle Academy and Berkley Accelerated Middle School, Jere L. Stambaugh Middle is clearly underperforming.

The combination of high chronic absenteeism, low test scores, and high rates of economic disadvantage suggests that Jere L. Stambaugh Middle may be facing significant challenges in providing a high-quality education to its students. Factors such as student engagement, teacher quality, and access to resources may be contributing to the school's underperformance. Addressing these issues will likely require a comprehensive, data-driven approach that focuses on improving student outcomes and supporting the school community.

Open Quote I think The ESE Teachers and Paras are excellent. My son looks towards to going to school. We appreciate the two teachers and his two Paras. He tells us how awesome they are. They are so kind and seemed to care about what they do. So thank you Close Quote

Open Quote My daughter and another female student both disabled were verbally, sexually and physically assaulted at the bus stop which i reported but nothing happened. The school told my daughter they can't do anything because it happened at the bus stop which is a lie. Nobody is protecting their most vulnerable students the predator is still riding the bus walking free without consequences. All they did was teach a future rapist about loopholes and teach 2 disabled girls that they're easy targets and nobody will protect them. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
