Cypress Creek High

Summary:

Cypress Creek High is a public high school located in Orlando, Florida, serving grades 9-12 with a total enrollment of 3,467 students. The school has a diverse student population, with a racial makeup of 10.12% White, 14.34% African American, 67.46% Hispanic, 6.2% Asian, and smaller percentages of Native American, Pacific Islander, and students of two or more races.

Cypress Creek High has maintained high four-year graduation rates, ranging from 93.8% to 99.2% over the past five years, which are significantly higher than the Orange and Osceola district averages. However, the school has experienced a concerning increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 28.2% in 2019-2020 to 56.7% in 2022-2023, which is much higher than the state and district averages. Additionally, Cypress Creek High's test scores, particularly in Algebra 1, Geometry, and English Language Arts, are consistently lower than the state and district averages, indicating academic challenges that need to be addressed.

Cypress Creek High's statewide ranking has steadily declined over the past decade, from a high of 344 out of 716 Florida high schools in 2017-2018 to a current ranking of 479 out of 807 in 2023-2024, with a consistent 2-star rating from SchoolDigger. When compared to nearby schools, Cypress Creek High performs better than the lower-performing Main Street High School and Chancery High Charter, but lags behind the higher-performing Freedom High and the exceptional Osceola County School for the Arts. Addressing the school's academic challenges and high chronic absenteeism will be crucial for Cypress Creek High to improve its educational outcomes and provide a better learning environment for its students.

Open Quote The faculty at this school are not professional at all. They are rude to students and have no tact when it comes to dealing with some students. They instigate a response to get students to the point of insubordination and then claim they are problem children. There is no communication among the staff. Faculty tell students untruths, lie, and believe themselves to be above the rules. Look at the stats...... THEY DO NOT LIE! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
