Main Street High School

Summary:

Main Street High School is a public charter high school in Kissimmee, Florida, serving 335 students in grades 9-12. The school is part of the Osceola School District, which is ranked 58 out of 68 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite being part of the Osceola district, Main Street High School has consistently underperformed compared to its peers. The school has ranked in the bottom 10-15% of Florida high schools for the past decade, with a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger. Its four-year graduation rates have been abysmal, ranging from just 6.4% to 33.3%, significantly lower than the state and district averages. Additionally, the school has faced extremely high chronic absenteeism rates, with 88% to 97.5% of students chronically absent over the past five years. Academically, Main Street High School students perform significantly worse than their peers on standardized tests, with proficiency rates often less than half the district and state averages.

In contrast, nearby schools like Heritage Park Academy, Osceola County School for the Arts, Gateway High School, and Zenith Accelerated Academy generally outperform Main Street High School on key metrics, suggesting that the challenges faced by this school are not necessarily shared by all schools in the Osceola district. The combination of low graduation rates, high chronic absenteeism, and poor academic performance at Main Street High School indicates that many students are not receiving the educational support and opportunities they need to succeed, which could have significant long-term consequences for the students and the broader community.

Open Quote The school is all over the place. There is a big lack of teachers, the new program sucks. The new program requires you to do 2 parts just for half a credit, and it takes the administration 1-2 months just to unlock another part, which angers me more on the fact that they expect you to be working when you have to wait for your work to come in. The school is very inconsistent which messes with my work. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
