Summary:

Tampa Heights Elementary Magnet is a public elementary school serving 292 students in grades K-5 in Tampa, Florida, which is part of the Hillsborough School District. The school faces significant challenges, including a high-poverty student population, low academic performance, and high chronic absenteeism rates.

Tampa Heights Elementary Magnet has a much higher percentage of African American students (73.29%) compared to nearby schools, which range from 23.32% to 79.36% African American. The school also struggles with high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 18.9% to 25.3% in recent years, significantly higher than the 0% to 58.3% range of nearby schools. Open Quote My daughter started at this school this year and my husband and I are so glad to have chosen Lee Elementary. The staff are very helpful in getting your child what they need to succeed at school and in life. The student/teacher ratio is very small and so I know that our daughter is getting the attention that she needs to do good in class. There are also many opportunities that the parents can get involved to help enrich the children's lives and that of the school. Needless to say, I have become very involved in many small groups that the school hosts and it is also a way to keep my husband and I informed of upcoming events and the direction that the school is going. Lee Elementary is a fantastic school that is focused on the family and that of the student body. I support the Fami-Lee motto. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
