Redstone Elementary School

Summary:

Redstone Elementary School is a highly-ranked public elementary school in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, serving 412 students in grades PK-6. As part of the highly-rated Douglas County School District No. Re 1, Redstone Elementary consistently outperforms district and state averages in academic assessments, ranking 59th out of 943 elementary schools in Colorado.

Redstone Elementary's key strengths include exceptional performance in English Language Arts, Math, and Science, with proficiency rates significantly higher than district and state levels. The school also boasts low chronic absenteeism and a very low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a relatively affluent student population. Compared to nearby schools, Redstone's academic performance is generally stronger, with the exception of Heritage Elementary, which ranks even higher in the state.

While Redstone Elementary maintains a consistent track record of excellence, the school's lower performance for female and white student subgroups compared to male and gifted students may indicate potential equity concerns that the school could address. Additionally, the school's ability to effectively serve a more diverse student population may be an area for further consideration, given its current demographic makeup.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is amazing. The teachers are so wonderful. There is a genuine interest for each student and their success. The teachers bend over backwards to help kids and meet with parents before or after hours. The principal, Mrs. Wilson and vice principal, Mrs. Puga seem to work well together and help to problem solve based on each individual situation so the kids don't get bunched up into one category. The woman that runs the after school program is a true gift to any child's life. Her name is Deb Mejia. Being a working parent presents it's own challenges and having my child in the before and after care program has been a true blessing. This school is really great and I believe that each child feels valued in being there. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
