Arrowwood Elementary School

Summary:

Arrowwood Elementary School is a public elementary school in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, serving 406 students in grades PK-6 and part of the highly-ranked Douglas County School District No. Re 1. While the school generally performs above the state average in English Language Arts, its performance in Math and Science lags behind the district and state. Arrowwood has shown strong performance for its Hispanic students but relatively lower performance for its White students.

Arrowwood Elementary School has a higher chronic absenteeism rate compared to the state average, which may be an area of concern. However, the school has a relatively low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, suggesting a more affluent student population. When compared to nearby top-performing schools in the district, such as Bear Canyon Elementary and Heritage Elementary, Arrowwood generally performs below these schools in both test scores and chronic absenteeism rates.

Interestingly, the public charter school Platte River Charter Academy, located just 1.72 miles from Arrowwood, has consistently outperformed Arrowwood in both English Language Arts and Math assessments. Arrowwood Elementary School's statewide ranking has also fluctuated over the years, suggesting the need to closely monitor the school's performance and identify areas for improvement to help it achieve greater academic success.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My daughter attended kindergarten at this school and we loved it. We found the front office staff helpful, kind and accommodating, and all teachers we came in contact with were tremendous. The focus in my daughter's classroom was on learning to read and write, and my daughter took tremendous strides in both her reading/writing and her math skills. I was very impressed with her progress this year. Three major downsides, however: 1) the kindergarteners didn't begin gym or art class until after mid-semester; 2) my daughter's classroom had 20 students, three of them special needs, and only one harried full-time teacher -- NO consistent aide to help!; and 3) on bad weather days, instead of recess, the students were plopped down in front of the TV -- and not even an educational program, just some random cartoon. Not cool! Close Quote

Open Quote We are pulling our child from this school. We have been here for 2 years and find that there is not a great deal of resources for advanced learners. There have been 3 principals since we have been there and no one really seems to be on the same page for problem solving. They are quick to label kids and not in positive ways. I would not recommend putting your child here if they need to be academically challenged or if they get bored easily. Close Quote

Open Quote I have a second grader and kindergartener at AWE this year. I have been so impressed by how the teachers go above and beyond for my kids. They have been quick to talk with me regarding concerns or praises for both of my kiddos. With my second grader, this has been consitant all three years he has attended AWE. The families are friendly and there is a feeling of community around school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
