Monarch K-8 School

Summary:

Monarch K-8 School is a public elementary and middle school located in Louisville, Colorado, serving grades PK-8 and part of the highly-ranked Boulder Valley School District. With a diverse student population, Monarch K-8 School has consistently ranked in the top 25% of Colorado elementary schools, but faces some academic challenges compared to nearby schools in the district.

While Monarch K-8 School maintains a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger, its performance lags behind the district and state averages in several key areas, including lower proficiency rates on CMAS English Language Arts, Math, and Science assessments, particularly in the upper grades. The school also has a higher percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds compared to surrounding schools, with 34.41% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. However, Monarch K-8 School's relatively low student-teacher ratio of 15.7 may help address these academic gaps.

Nearby Superior Elementary School and Eldorado K-8 School generally outperform Monarch K-8 School on academic measures, but the school still maintains a strong overall ranking compared to the state. By addressing areas of improvement, such as strengthening curriculum and instructional practices in core subjects, Monarch K-8 School can continue to provide a high-quality education to its diverse student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote As a PARENT, my daughter started at Monarch K-8 in 5th grade. We had a bit of a rocky start from moving in from out of state, BUT the teachers genuinely care about their students, and it shows. My daughter finished 5th-8th grade at Monarch and now attends MOHI. She has had nothing bad to say about her experience at Monarch (just the normal kid stuff). If you google "schooldigger.com" (https://www.schooldigger.com/go/CO/schools/0249001573/school.aspx) you can look into all the school's state testing numbers and actual valid rankings - not from the mouths of children. As of 2017, the student/teacher ratio is 19.2, check it out for yourself and your kids! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
