Ryan Elementary School

Summary:

Ryan Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Lafayette, Colorado, serving grades PK-5 with a student population of 418. It is part of the Boulder Valley School District, which is ranked 4 out of 116 districts in Colorado and has a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Ryan Elementary has a higher percentage of White students (68.66%) compared to the surrounding schools, which range from 23.62% to 77.86% White students, it also has a higher percentage of Hispanic students (18.9%) compared to most nearby schools. Academically, Ryan Elementary's test scores are generally lower than the district and state averages across CMAS English Language Arts, Math, and Science assessments. For example, in 2023-2024, Ryan's proficiency rates were 47.1% in ELA, 38.4% in Math, and 42.5% in 5th grade Science, compared to the Boulder Valley School District's 63.2%, 53.5%, and 57.4% respectively. The school's rankings for specific student subgroups, such as female, male, White, and low socioeconomic status students, are generally in the middle to lower range compared to other Colorado elementary schools, and its ranking for gifted and talented students is particularly low, in the bottom 10% of schools.

Interestingly, the nearby schools in the Boulder Valley School District generally perform better than Ryan Elementary across various metrics, including state rankings, test scores, and student subgroup performance. Schools like Superior Elementary, Fireside Elementary, and Louisville Elementary consistently rank in the top 20-25% of Colorado elementary schools and have significantly higher proficiency rates in ELA, Math, and Science. This suggests that Ryan Elementary may need to re-evaluate its identification and support for high-achieving students, as well as address the needs of its diverse student population to improve its overall academic performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote We love Ryan elementary school. It is rather small and the community inside is super friendly. All of the teachers and employees are very kind and helpful. It's a STEAM school and students learn a good level of Math and Science. It was not the highest ranking school but it climbs up constantly. Also my kid is happy at school and that is the most important thing for us. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
