As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Our children have attended Kohl for the last three years and we are very impressed with the amount of care that comes from the teachers, office and principal. My son had come from District 50 and that was a horrifying experience. He went from being almost a full year behind compared to all the other students, to fully catching up and thriving. They are constantly adding to the playgrounds and making great updates to the school. The quality of the school lunches is leaps and bounds above any other I've seen in the state, including organic local produce, milk, and I haven't seen anything but whole grains(never white bread or anything). Teachers communicate closely with parents and are very proactive to ensure students aren't falling behind and get them the help they need. One thing in particular I really like, is that the kids aren't pressured to SELL SELL SELL cheap products to get funding for the school. Kohl is much more creative in getting extra funding and it doesn't feel like such a hassle. We aren't moving from our area because this is the school we want all of our kids to be at and thrive. We love it here. Close Quote

Open Quote We moved from out of state. I did a lot of research to find a good school. BVSD kept coming up as a great district. So far we have not been disappointed! My daughter has special needs (high functioning autism and transgender) that need to be handled in a sensitive manner. I was very nervous about finding a school that would respect her and support her needs. The principal is amazing. She is open, collaborative and really seems to care about her students, staff and the school. She is very involved. She immediately put our minds at ease about supporting our daughter and works with us to ensure her safety and success. We are very impressed with the quality and robustness of the Kohl curriculum and staff. Both of my kids' teachers (even specials!) are dedicated and easy to work with. Great parent involvement. Many opportunities: choir, unicycle club, student council, instrumental music, and other clubs! My kids are thriving! My daughter has made such progress with her reading intervention teacher and she is enjoying reading now! We are so pleased with Kohl! The only complaint I have is the high number of students per class. 2nd grade has 29 students in each class this year. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
