Edna and John W. Mosley P-8

Summary:

Edna and John W. Mosley P-8 is an elementary and middle school in Aurora, Colorado, serving grades PK-8 with a diverse student population. The school consistently ranks in the bottom 20% of Colorado elementary schools, with significantly below-average performance on state assessments across all grade levels and subject areas.

Edna and John W. Mosley P-8 has a high percentage of students from low-income families, with 74.56% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. The school's African American and Hispanic student subgroups perform better relative to their peers statewide, ranking in the top 50% and top 25% of Colorado elementary schools, respectively. However, the school's overall academic performance, particularly for female, male, and low socioeconomic status students, is in the bottom 10-20% of Colorado elementary schools. The nearby schools in the Aurora Joint District No. 28 face similar challenges, with most ranking in the bottom 20% of the state.

The high percentage of low-income students and relatively high student-teacher ratio at Edna and John W. Mosley P-8 may be contributing factors to the school's low academic performance. In contrast, the Montessori del Mundo Charter School, which is outside the Aurora district, performs significantly better on state assessments, with proficiency rates closer to the state averages. This suggests that alternative educational approaches may be more effective in this community, and significant interventions and support are needed to improve student outcomes at Edna and John W. Mosley P-8 and the surrounding schools.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My kids go to Mosley and we love it! Never had ANY issues with them! Have LOVED the way they’ve always handled things! And I was ALWAYS notified! Even if it was something small! Plus it’s super close to base! There’s a gate for them to walk to school through that SF’s opens. The teachers were great and I loved how they did the parent teacher conferences! I even volunteered there a few times! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
