Terra Vista Elementary

Summary:

Terra Vista Elementary is a public elementary school located in Rancho Cucamonga, California, serving grades K-5 with a total enrollment of 944 students. This school is part of the Etiwanda Elementary School District, which is ranked 186 out of 1,568 districts in California and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Terra Vista Elementary consistently ranks among the top California elementary schools, with a statewide ranking between 330 and 809 over the past 10 years. The school's students perform significantly better than the state average in Smarter Balanced Assessments for English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics across all grade levels, often ranking in the top 5-10% of California elementary schools for specific subgroups, such as African American, Hispanic, English Language Learners, and Special Education students. This is particularly noteworthy given that Terra Vista has a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 35.22% to 57.1% over the past 3 years.

Compared to nearby schools in the Etiwanda Elementary District and the Alta Loma Elementary District, Terra Vista Elementary outperforms most in academic assessments, with higher proficiency rates in ELA, Math, and Science. However, the school's chronic absenteeism rate has increased significantly from 3.7% in 2018-2019 to 24.9% in 2021-2022, which is an area of concern that the school and district should investigate and address.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Terra Vista is a wonderful school! There are so many programs that keep the kids excited about going to school. I really love that they have high academic standards and many programs centered around the arts. The kids learn about a new artist every month and they create their own art. My son is in the band program and my daughter performs in Chorus every year. They also teach kids how to persevere and never give up. The teachers really care about the kids and the office staff is always friendly. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
