Lindbergh Elementary School

Summary:

Lindbergh Elementary School is a public elementary school in Mesa, Arizona, serving 506 students in grades PK-6. The school is part of the Mesa Unified District, which has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger and ranks 179 out of 288 districts in the state.

Lindbergh Elementary has consistently been ranked in the bottom quarter of Arizona elementary schools, with a 0-1 star rating from SchoolDigger over the past several years. The school's academic performance, as measured by proficiency rates on state assessments, is consistently well below the district and state averages across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, only 24% of 4th-grade students were proficient in English Language Arts, compared to 45% in the district and 46% statewide. Lindbergh's student subgroups, such as Hispanic, African American, and Special Education students, also perform significantly worse than their peers at the district and state levels.

In comparison, the nearby Lincoln Elementary School and Franklin Accelerated Academy - East Campus, a high-performing charter school, generally perform better than Lindbergh on academic measures. Lindbergh's per-student spending has fluctuated over the years, but this level of funding does not appear to be translating into improved academic outcomes for the school. The school's performance for homeless and foster care students is particularly concerning, with the school ranking in the bottom 10% and top 28% of Arizona elementary schools, respectively, in the 2020-2021 school year.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I am very upset to learn that the sixth grade teacher of whom I am not a fan, is shunning students, not allowing them to attend the end of year celebration party. She has installed a point system, if the child does not meet her requirements the students will not be allowed to attend the party, they will be ostracized, banned to another room while she and students have a party. This is no way to treat kids with delicate self esteems, setting them up to be targets of bullying I have never heard of such a thing. Grades and points should be a private matter between student and teacher this is a horrible practice. Not only is this a failing school ranked in the bottom it is no wonder. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
